May 24—The National Weather Service calls it the 'marine layer,' but that is not nearly as catchy as May Gray, the comfortable pause between cold and hot weather when people in Los Angeles County enjoy low-ish heating and cooling bills from the likes of SoCal Gas and LADWP and residents can go without a jacket — and without sunglasses. According to NWS, 'Unlike the sea breeze, which re-forms almost every day along the east coast in Summer, the marine layer can persist for days and weeks along the west coasts of continents.
